Individual therapy can be helpful for a variety of reasons, such as increasing an individual's self-awareness, encouraging self-exploration, identifying boundaries, enhancing communication skills and improving the use of healthy coping skill. It can be beneficial to talk with a therapist if you struggle with work life balance, are in a time of transition or decision making, or suffering from chronic stress, anxiety or depression. Seeing a therapist can inspire change and improve your quality of life.

Making the choice to go to couples therapy can feel like a big step, but can be such a rewarding one. If you find yourself arguing more than usual, are stuck in dysfunctional patterns of behavior or feel like you can’t communicate effectively, it may be time to see a professional. If you are experiencing strain on your relationship because you have gone through something devastating, are having difficulty in making a big decision, or are feeling disconnected emotionally and physically, seeing a therapist can be a great way to reconnect and learn the skills necessary to building a lasting, healthy, happy relationship.

Navigating the emotional path to parenthood can be a long and arduous one. Do I want to have children? How and when do I/we want to build our family? What do we need to think about before we start a family? How do our parenting styles differ and how can we avoid problems that may arise? Reproductive counseling provides an opportunity to receive support, better understand your reproductive options and choices, and explore the impact of these events on yourself and your relationships.  No matter where you are in your reproductive journey, seeking counseling is a sign of strength and commitment to your personal well-being, your relationship and your future family.

Infertility counseling is a form of psychotherapy designed to support individuals or couples who are facing challenges around fertility. You might be seeking this if you have been struggling to conceive a child, or you need support through fertility treatments such as IUI or IVF,  if you are considering using a sperm or egg donor, or thinking about adoption or surrogacy. Support in navigating the complex world and emotional challenges of fertility preservation and treatment can be extremely helpful.

You can expect support and validation, exploration of hopes and expectations, tools for stress management and coping, and if needed specific work in the areas of grief and loss.

Pregnancy, birth, adoption and surrogacy can be emotionally and physically challenging. It is possible our bodies and moods are changing quickly, our sleep patterns are disrupted, and the unknowns of birth and parenthood can be frightening. Discussing your fears and expectations can make the process seem a little less overwhelming. Studies show that 50-70% of women can experience the “baby blues”, however, if your symptoms are lasting longer than 2-3 weeks you should reach out for help.

Up to 1 in 5 women and up to  1 in 10 men will experience a more serious mood disorder. If you are concerned about mood or behavior changes during pregnancy or postpartum, after an adoption or surrogacy, or have experienced a traumatic birth or loss, therapy can help. We can create a plan that targets your specific symptoms, reduces stress, builds coping skills, restores self-esteem and hope, and improves overall well-being so that you can move forward. Know that your symptoms are treatable and that you deserve to feel better.

Premarital and Marital counseling helps partners improve their ability to communicate, set realistic expectations for marriage and develop conflict-resolution skills. In addition, premarital counseling can help couples establish a positive attitude about seeking help down the road if the need arises. I am a certified Prepare and Enrich facilitator and find it can be a very useful tool to assess for problematic areas as well as strengths in a couple relationship. It can also be helpful in establishing goals for further couples therapy. This assessment is not only for engaged couples. This is an effective assessment for a couple in any stage of their relationship. There is also an assessment for parenting, which will give you insight into parenting style, family dynamics and your couple relationship. If you would like more information on this assessment feel free to call me or take a look at their website.
